چکیده

PROPOFOL is commonly used for intensive care unit sedation and prolonged procedures in the adult population where both deep sedation and quick emergence are required. Several recent reports have described a “propofol infusion syndrome,” occurring in both pediatric and adult patients receiving prolonged high-dose infusions of propofol ( 75 g · kg 1 · min 1 24 h). The syndrome is characterized as a severe metabolic acidosis, sometimes associated with myocardial dysfunction, rhabdomyolysis, or death. Although some reports have documented high anion gap, lactic acidosis, others have documented only a metabolic acidosis without further characterization. All cases of propofol infusion syndrome reported thus far have occurred in critically ill patients receiving multiple other drugs, creating some controversy as to whether propofol alone was its cause. We now report a case of metabolic acidosis, without ventilatory depression or hypoxia, in an otherwise healthy patient receiving propofol as the sole anesthetic agent during an ablation for atrial fibrillation. Approval for this case review was obtained from the institutional review board of the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.

Blood Biomarkers Alterations with Administration of Propofol for Anaesthesia Maintenance during Long term Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeries

Objective: This prospective study performed to evaluate blood biomarkers alterations with administration of propofol for maintenance of anaesthesia during long oral and maxillofacial surgeries in order to estimate the risk of Propofol Infusion Syndrome (PRIS). This rare syndrome often would be happened in long duration or high dose infusion which is characterized by the combination of metabol...

Propofol Infusion Associated Metabolic Acidosis in Patients Undergoing Neurosurgical Anesthesia: A Retrospective Study

OBJECTIVE Propofol and volatile anesthesia have been associated with metabolic acidosis induced by increased lactate. This study was designed to evaluate changes in pH, base excess (BE), and lactate in response to different anesthetic agents and to characterize propofol infusion-associated lactic acidosis. METHODS The medical records of patients undergoing neurosurgical anesthesia between Jan...

VARIATIONS OF GLUCOSE 6-PHOSPHATE DEHYDROGENASE ACTIVITY IN VARIOUS TISSUES INDUCED BY METABOLIC ALKALOSIS, ACIDOSIS AND DIABETES

The effects of chronic metabolic acidosis, alkalosis and alloxan-induced ketoacidosis on G6PD activity of rat kidney, liver and erythrocytes were studied. Metabolic acidosis significantly increased the activity of kidney enzyme (55%) but decreased the liver (43%) and erythrocyte (38%) enzyme activities. Alkalosis did not make a significant change in the kidney or liver enzyme activity but ...

METABOLIC ACIDOSIS AND SEVERE HYPOTENSION: INFLUENCE ON SURVIVAL TIME AND SHOCK PERIOD DURING HEMORRHAGE IN THE CAT

Metabolic acidosis and severe hypotension are the main causes of irreversibility during hemorrhagic shock. The influence of these two factors on durations of shock period and survival time were studied in four groups of anesthetized cats. In group I the animals were made hypotensive by reducing mean arterial blood pressure (Pa) to 45 mmHg with concurrent metabolic acidosis. [n group II the ...
